Sibenik Walking Tours

LOCAL STORIES. LOCAL LIFE. LOCAL FOOD & DRINKS

Philosophy

Sibenik feels like a big village and I would love to show you this city through my eyes. So nope, I am not your umbrella-wielding guide.

My name is Igor and I have been living in Sibenik region since 2005. I’ve decided run the Sibenik Tour because I’ve also realized that Dalmatia and especially Sibenik is not yet ready for mass tourism, therefore quite difficult to move around and to appreciate, even for some locals. Because I’m not originally Croatian I am “witnessing” the history of Sibenik region as person from the side. However, like typical Dalmatian  I like long sleeping, ‘will do tomorrow’, slow food, glass of wine before bed-time, ‘intense discussion’ about soccer players and politics.

I love Sibenik, walking in Sibenik, exploring Sibenik, learning about Sibenik and finding out new things and old things, and particularly, I like strange, quirky and slightly odd facts. Sibenik Tour is promoting the “slow tourism”, allowing you deeper experience, stronger emotional involvement and  relaxation. After all, Croatian coast is well known by its slow Mediterranean lifestyle, called “fjaka” (pronounced “fyaka”). You see, you’ve already just learned something about Dalmatia and you haven’t even come on a Sibenik Tour.

How it works

You send me an email using the contact form on this website, telling me which day you’d like to come on the one of Sibenik Tours. I’ll reply, telling you where to meet, the time etc.

When you turn up, there will hopefully be some other inquisitive types hanging around. I’d like to keep the group sizes small (All tours are semi private with 6 people or less), as I actually like talking to and with people rather than at them and prefer to think of the walks as wandering around and having a bit of a chat. I think that from your point of view, it’s also a much better and more enjoyable, intimate experience.

Once we have met and all is present and correct, then we will begin.

At the end of the walk (if you’re still with me) I will give you a map of Sibenik or Sibenik region showing all the places we have been in case you want to look them up, and go back another time.

Occasionally Asked Questions

How long are the walks?
It very much depends on the group and the day, but basically about 3-4 hours. The Skradin town to Skradinski buk Waterfall tour could be a bit longer if people having a mooch around waterfall.

What should I bring?
You can bring what you like, but I’m not carrying it. However, I’d suggest:

Sensible shoes, water, appropriate clothing for any weather-based eventualities, swimming suit if you ready to swim at Skradinski buk waterfall, a camera if you have one, some cash, if you are going to visit St. Michael fortress or St. James Cathedral (unfortunately they are not accepting credit or debit cards) and of course wanderlust and curiosity.

What happens if it rains?
We get wet. If it’s torrential, then we can duck into somewhere, but basically, if forecast is telling that will be rain so bring an umbrella.

What if I’m late?
This is Dalmatia.Everybody late here (except me because I am still not original Dalmatian :-). It’s possible you won’t know your way around.Problem to find parking if you with a car. For this reason, as part of the booking, I will request your phone number, so if you haven’t turned up, I can give you a call to see where you are. After 15 minutes, we will head off, unless we know you’re on your way.

Where will we start and finish?
Sibenik Tour has four tours to choose from; the Sibenik walking historical tour called Monument of Kresimir IV to St James Cathedral (because it starts near monument of Kresimir IV and finishes at St James Cathedral), the Krka National park walking tour called Skradin town to Skradinski buk Waterfall (bet you can’t guess why), the Sibenik walking food&drink tour called Sibenik Open Air Market to Sibenik Tavern (because it starts near Sibenik market and finishes in konoba (Dalmatian traditional tavern)), and the Eat, Drink, and Cook (if you would like to) with locals tour called Let’s eat, drink, and cook (if you would like to) with me in Vodice (because it starts and finishes in Vodice (which is just 12 km from Sibenik)).

Will we use a transport?
It is officially a ‘walking’ tour (except the tour “Eat, Drink, and Cook (if you would like to) with locals where we will just walk until table :-), but in Krka National park you also can use the boat on a way back to Skradin. Its include in entry ticket price.

Can we bring children?
Yes. Little people are most welcome, as are the more senior amongst us. Just be aware that we’ll be on the move for approximately 4 hours and it will be plenty of footsteps in old part of Sibenik.
